Solar eclipse in Virgo: Tender devoted hands
A mini-recap: I wrote about the phenomena of eclipses, their astrological significations, what you should and should not do during an eclipse, as well as the first half of this eclipse cycle. You can check that out in my previous post, Lunar eclipse in Pisces: A churning hurricane.
Delineating the Solar Eclipse in Virgo
Mercury, the ruler of Virgo, presides over this lunation. So it’s important to review Mercury’s movements prior to this eclipse. On September 13, 2025 at 6:51AM eastern, Mercury conjoined the Sun. When planets enter the heart of the Sun, they are said to be fortified and protected. Mercury cazimi, as it's called, is associated with insights, revelations, and luck. Just like that, after Mercury gains some newfound awareness, he moves on and switches signs. On September 18th, Mercury moves into Libra. Here, Mercury is called to navigate and negotiate the matters of balance and relationships which are tied to this eclipse cycle. He finds himself co-present Mars, the god of war and severance, who is at 29° of Libra. The 29th degree is commonly referred to as the anaretic or critical degree. Planets at the anaretic degree are itching to move on. They have crossed the whole sign and know there is an ending and a change coming soon. Mercury will have to catch-up and revisit Mars’ steps.
The next day, on Friday September 19th, the Moon conjoins Venus and both of them move into the sign of Virgo. Venus in Virgo is said to be in its fall. Planets in fall are said to lack the resources and tools to tend to their matters. In Virgo, Venus only has Mercury’s toolbox at her disposal. But this Venus in Virgo is not hopeless. Venus has triplicity dignity in Virgo and she’s in her bound. She can tend to the ventures Mercury started when he entered Virgo in early September.
The partial solar eclipse will take place in Virgo on September 21, 2025 at 3:54PM eastern, next to the South Node. It requires attention and pruning. This lunation takes place at the anaretic degree, at 29° of Virgo. This new moon trines Uranus and Pluto, which could feel like disruption, shock, or breakthrough. The eclipse forms opposite the god of boundaries, Saturn at 28° of Pisces, and Neptune at 1° of Aries. Saturn demands we contend with limits, endings, and possibly, grief. Neptune makes it difficult for us to find clarity immediately. This eclipse demands our discernment, but we’ll have to be comfortable with ambiguity. This south node lunation is revealing what can no longer be sustained and what must be put down. It is asking us to be realistic about our boundaries and our capacity, and about the feasibility of our undertakings in the house Virgo occupies in our chart. Something is ending. We can’t quite see the way out yet, but the ground is being cleared for new seeds to take root.
Then, on Monday, September 22nd, Mars leaves his fall in Libra, and moves into his nocturnal water home of Scorpio. In Scorpio, Mars has courage and resolve to follow through with everything eclipse season set in motion. That same Monday, we welcome Libra season, and celebrate the Fall Equinox - a time when there is equal amount of light and dark in a day. A rebalancing is coming.

Solar eclipse in Virgo: Devoted hands
This September eclipse season highlighted the Virgo-Pisces axis of our chart.
Two weeks ago, we had a lunar eclipse in Pisces next to the North Node. This full moon was a churning hurricane. which brought about a culmination or an ending. Pisces is proof that once we ensoul our creations and dreams, they take on a life of their own. Even more so when we undertake them in partnership. We cannot control a hurricane, or the depths of Piscean waters. We can only surrender.
This solar eclipse in Virgo asks us to pause. It calls on us to remember the greater purpose, and adjust our actions accordingly. This New Moon beckons us to nurture what remains after the Pisces eclipse, to prune what has ended, and to clear the soil for the new beginnings we’ll cultivate over the next six months.
So ask yourself, what is tugging at your heartbrain? To what are you committing? More importantly than that, what changes and outcomes are actually within your control? What is no longer sustainable? What must come to an end? What requires clearing and fallowing? Virgo knows the subtle difference. There is no one better to bring about the next harvest than the Maiden of Wheat. Her devoted hands will tend to the seeds.
Horoscopes for the Partial Solar Eclipse in Virgo
As you reflect on this eclipse, I encourage you to take a step back and take a holistic view at how these energies are showing up in your world. It’s easy to fall into the trap of only looking at the birth chart through a personal or psychological lens. But it’s important to remember that the natal chart includes the whole of your life – your ancestors, your family, your neighbors, your coworkers, your country, your partners, your responsibilities, your hobbies, your desires, and more. You are part of a magical interconnected web and your chart is reflective of your world, along with all of its complexities and connections, not only you. Not all transits are going to carry the same impact or magnitude for all of us, because we are all different humans, with very different lives and charts.
