Full moon in Aries: All is fair in love and war

Libra season: A reckoning of love

We entered Libra season on September 22nd, following a tumultuous eclipse season. The September 7th  lunar eclipse in Pisces forced us to contend with complex and shifting emotional truths and the culmination, boundaries and endings of a dream. Then, came the partial solar eclipse in Virgo on September 21st, where we revisited our Piscean vision, and were called to adjust our actions accordingly. That lunation beckoned us to nurture what remained after the Pisces eclipse and embrace bittersweet grief, to prune whatever ended, and to clear the soil for the new beginnings we are cultivating over the next six months.

The book of birth of Iskandar, Libra

Libra is ruled by Venus, the goddess of love, beauty, and prosperity. During Libra season we have the autumnal equinox, a day of almost perfectly equal duration of daylight and night. A day of balance. Similarly, Libra is a venusian sign known for its impulse to seek unity. With that comes Libra’s focus towards rationality and proportion. All of this in order to form and maintain social  bonds. If Venus represents the connection and care between us living beings, then Libra represents the delicate balance needed to maintain harmony in our relationships.

In ancient Egypt, Libra’s scales symbolized The Weight of the Heart ceremony. After death, the deceased’s heart was weighed against the feather of Maat (goddess of truth and justice) to decide if the Soul was worthy of the afterlife. It’s telling that the Sun, which represents our identity, self-expression, and ego, finds his detriment in the sign of Libra. Here, Sol loses his ability to remain ego-driven and singular. Rather, he finds himself primarily concerned with and navigating the needs of others and the relationship. Meanwhile, Saturn finds his exaltation in Libra. Saturn, who represents boundaries, brings to Libra’s harmonious and idealistic abode the ability to enforce contracts and covenants which underlie relationships. In Libra, Saturn denotes the thresholds which should not be crossed in a relationship, and it governs the consequences that follow when those boundaries are tested or broken.

At the start of this Libra season, Venus remains in Virgo tending to the final details the eclipse left behind its wake. Here, Venus doesn’t care for the illusion of fairytale romance. Virgo is an Earth sign and she is familiar with the work and routines required to bring about earthly bounties. (I wrote more about Virgo, here.) Venus in Virgo is looking for a love that can produce tangible harvests. She is concerned with practical love - follow through, dedication, commitment. She is not interested in performative gestures or appearances.

Before Venus enters her domicile of Libra, she has one last stop. On Saturday, October 4th, Venus will conjoin the South Node in Virgo. The South Node is a point of paring back and releasing. It distills, dissipates, and diminishes. Here, Venus will have one final chance to let go. As Venus hits the South Node, she is asking us to fully cut back what no longer serves us, especially in relationships. Two days later, we have a full moon.

Full Moon in Aries

Mars, the god of war and severance, transversed Libra in August, bringing conflict and tension to our relationships. He entered Scorpio on the first day of Libra season, September 22nd. As a fixed sign, Scorpio is a master of endurance. Here, Mars is infused with grit, willpower, and tenacity. Scorpio is also a water sign. Her waters cool Mars, making him less impulsive and more strategic. When Mars is in Scorpio he bides his time, striking precisely when the moment is right. Here, he is more sniper than gladiator.

Meanwhile, Mercury, the god of communication and commerce, has been in Libra since September 18th. He will enter the Martian waters of Scorpio on October 6th. In Scorpio Mercury takes on a sharper, probing tone. He is no longer concerned with the delicate relational dance he undertook in Libra. Rather, Mercury is seeking to cut straight to the heart of the matter.

This Libra season, with Venus in Virgo, and Mars and Mercury in Scorpio, we are dissecting our relationships. It's a subtle and emotional balance—learning how to come together in a relationship while still honoring your own needs, and understanding where you and your partner each begin and end. This Libra season we hold up the scales, reevaluating our commitments, reassessing our compromises, and approaching conflict strategically.

Aries and the Golden-Fleeced Ram

In Greek mythology, Aries is associated with the Golden-Fleeced Ram. This myth involves King Athamos of Boeotia. King Athamos had a pair of twins, Helle and Phrixus, with his wife Nephele, who was a cloud nymph and minor goddess of rain. However, King Athamos left his Nephele for the Theban princess, Ino. Ino despised her stepchildren, even more so after she gave birth to two sons, Learches and Melicertes. So, Ino devised a plan. She destroyed the town’s crops, leading to a famine, which she then blamed on Nephele. When the King sent a messenger to consult with a nearby oracle, Ino bribed the messenger to say that the famine would only be lifted if the King sacrificed his children to Zeus. Before this could happen, Nephele sent Crius Chrysomallus, a flying golden ram to save her children. Tragically, during the flight Helle fell off the Golden Ram and drowned in the Black Sea. However, Phrixus made it to safety, finding safe haven in the town of Colchis. In gratitude to the gods for saving him, Phrixus sacrificed the Golden Ram, and gifted his Kingly host the ram’s golden fleece. King Aeetes placed the fleece in an oak tree in the sacred grove to Ares, where it was guarded by a dragon who never slept. The Golden Ram, Crius Chrysomallus was immortalized in the stars as the constellation Aries due to his bravery and heroism.

Three of Wands from the Rider–Waite tarot deck

Aries is the exaltation of the Sun, and the domicile of Mars. Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, a cardinal fire sign, representing the spark of life that follows the end of winter and beginning of spring. It represents the drive and courage the Golden Ram displayed. As such, a full moon in Aries is a fiery affair. This lunation takes place in the second decan (division of 10°) of Aries , a subdivision ruled by the Sun. This decan is associated with the 3 of Wands in tarot. The energy is expansive, driven, and focused on individual progress.

Full Moons

On October 6th, we have a full moon in Aries. Full moons are when Luna is at her brightest. This is when she shines the brightest, reaching peak luminosity. It’s the last moon cycle, before she starts to wane and decrease in fullness. As such, full moons are associated with revelations, awareness, fruition, culminations, and closure. Full moons bring things to a head or completion. Full moons also have a tendency of unearthing anything you have been ignoring or neglecting. It’s important to remember, every ending brings with it a new beginning. This lunation in Aries is the first full moon after the eclipse cycle, and technically signifies the end of this eclipse season. It is giving us a revelation and closure, while providing a new path forward to our eclipse story.

This full moon could be the final revelation or peak from eclipse season for some of us. But I also want you to think back to last year’s spring, around April 8, 2024 and even earlier this spring, around March 29th, 2025. On both of these dates solar (new moon) eclipses took place in Aries. The themes of this upcoming eclipse might seem similar or related to whatever was happening in your life back then.

Full moons always activate two opposing signs and polarities. In this case, the full moon is lighting up the Aries-Libra axis of your natal chart. Your individual needs, desires, authenticity, and the independent nature of Aries contrast with the agreeableness, diplomacy, and relational focus of Libra. This full moon invites you to notice the ways you diminish yourself for others, so you can more fully embody your authentic self.

October 6th has a lot of movement. Early in the morning (ET), the Moon will conjoin Neptune in Aries. Later that afternoon, Mercury moves into Scorpio. Followed by a Super Full Moon in Aries later in the evening. Though things might start off unclear or hazy in the morning, that all changes when Luna opposes Sol. Here comes the revelation, the bold confrontation, or personal assertion. Then, from 0° Scorpio Mercury squares Pluto in Aquarius – another indication of revelations or breakthroughs. This eclipse season ends with a bang.

Let’s jump straight to the Full Moon horoscopes. But don’t forget to scroll to the bottom to read what the rest of October brings.

Horoscopes: Guidance for the full moon

As you reflect on this lunation, I encourage you to take a step back and take a holistic view at how these energies are showing up in your world. It’s easy to fall into the trap of only looking at the birth chart through a personal or psychological lens. But it’s important to remember that the natal chart includes the whole of your life – your ancestors, your family, your neighbors, your coworkers, your country, your partners, your responsibilities, your hobbies, your desires, and more. You are part of a magical interconnected web and your chart is reflective of your world, along with all of its complexities and connections, not only you. Not all transits are going to carry the same impact or magnitude for all of us, because we are all different humans, with very different lives and charts.

The rest of October

After the eclipse, Venus will oppose Neptune on October 11th, facing a little bit of uncertainty, and two days later on October 13th, she opposes Saturn, where she faces the reality of the situation. Venus confronts any illusions or delusions that remain. She comes up against limits and boundaries in the topics Libra rules – femmes, partnership, diplomacy, beauty, art and love. She then goes on to trine Uranus in Gemini and Pluto in Aquarius. This might feel like a jolt of realization, breakthrough, or a shakeup as it pertains to the topics of Libra.

On the 17th the Sun in Libra will square Jupiter in Cancer and Pluto in Aquarius. Again, we’ll contend with the ways we limit ourselves and curtail our own authenticity. This might feel like awareness, inspiration, or breakthrough. Then, at the end of October, on the 21st, Mercury will collide with Mars. You might find yourself digging deep and investigating, seeking emotional depth and meaning, or equipped with hyper-focused mental clarity and agility regarding the topics of the eclipse and your Scorpio house. Take care against the dark side of this transit which could show up as obsession, paranoia, passive-aggressiveness, or defensiveness. That same day, there will be a New Moon in Libra. Then, on the 29th, Mercury heads off to Sagittarius.

We’ll cover the New Moon in Libra next time. For now, make sure to give yourself time to rest and reflect after the Full Moon in Aries on October 6th.
